Lanterns *SOLD

Lanterns, candles, lamps, luminaries, basically everything that glows a warm light inspires me.  Hang a solar lantern from your patio and you will smile every time you see it. It's shape invites magic and inspiration. I don't know exactly why lanterns are so inviting - but they are.

This painting is an ode to those spheres of light that make the night bright and the day dance. Lanterns - is a 16" x 22" watercolor painting on 140 lb. hot press arches watercolor paper. It is professionally framed with conservation non glare glass. Available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN  | 218-547-3729

Evening Allium *SOLD

I'm starting to desire layers of clothing and dark rich colors again - fall must be in the air. This little watercolor started out as a study for a class, I was teaching, in layering watercolor and salt techniques. I thought it was worth finishing and framing. The colors make me want to go for a walk in the fall colors.

Evening Allium is a 6"x6.5" watercolor on 140 lb arches cold press watercolor paper. It is framed to be 12"x12.5" in a simple black frame. Evening Allium  is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN for $45.00 | 218-547-3729

Dogwood Blossoms *SOLD

The twisting shapes and sweet petals of a dogwood branch make it a perfect painting subject. This little 6"x8" dogwood blossom watercolor is not true to the dogwood color BUT that is the fun of painting…making your own colors. The background is a light washed yellow ochre which fades to green. I used a salt wash technique to give the piece a textured/aged effect.

Cliff-Top Trees *SOLD

The fun part of using watercolor is letting it run. Of course you can guide the flow of the colors but the course the colors will choose is unknown and most often - wonderful. This piece has an open linear flow to it by mixing tight detail, along with loose watercolor runs.

I am teaching this technique in a studio class next week. The class is 3 hours long. This piece is 7" x 16" and created in just under 3 hours. The class will create pieces a bit smaller in order to meet the 3 hour timeframe. I have photographed the painting in stages and put them together in a video to show the process. The link is below.

Meadow Birch - SOLD

The Birch trees surrounding northern Minnesota have been great models for me this summer. This one caught my eye with it's gentle swoop and view of the golden meadow. I just might add a little more red to it before I call it finished but I'll hang out with it for a few days before I add anything more.

This watercolor painting will be framed to about 16"x20" - give or take a few inches. Meadow Birch will be available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN as soon as it is framed.
