Sandbar Cast

Sometimes a painting just has to go through a transformation. That was the case with this one. This was once a 30" x 30" painting titled Reflection. Reflection had a strong yellow ochre base and a lot of negative space. After 2 years the colors no longer spoke to me and Sandbar Cast was formed out of Reflection. The canvas is now a nice 22" x 20" with warm turquoise and cool blues mixing to make the fishermen look like he is standing on a sandbar with deep water to either side. This fishermen is now in his element and I am happy with the final painting.

Depth Finder *SOLD

Depth Finder was inspired by the Sunshine and a Winsor and Newton paint named Cobalt Turquoise Light.  This piece is 24" x 36" or 36" x 24" depending on the format you hang it. I have always wanted to create an abstract that could hang either horizontal or vertical. This attempt, in the past, always ended with an obvious hanging format. With Depth Finder I have finally succeeded in creating a piece that likes to hang either way.

As I painted this abstract I imagined looking down from the sky into a large, clear, turquoise body of water. I thought about the refreshing dive into this deep, beautiful, cool sea. In a way, it is a topographic map of the layers of refreshment water brings to the earth. Of course...it is abstract so I invite you to interpret Depth Finder in your own way. Enjoy

Wind *sold

Wind is a small 5"x5" acrylic painting on stretched canvas.  I was flipping through some of my old sketchbooks and came across a sailboat sketch that told me it wanted to become a painting. The sailors were probably heading home after a day exploring the lake.

Bittersweet IV - 5"x5" *sold

This little 5"x5" piece is the smallest in my series of Bittersweet paintings. The berries are just slightly bigger than the real bittersweet berry would be. The combination of bright orange against a background of blue, green, grey and yellow is one of my favorite palettes. This one needs to be seen in person.

Summer Tradition *sold

Summer Tradition is a graphite sketch on 140 lb watercolor paper. I used Derwent's inktense  pencils for color in some areas while keeping the sketch loose. This painting/drawing is 18" x 24" in size. Thank you to Tyga for being my model inspiration for this painting. 

Red Head *sold

We all have our favorite flowers. Some pick favorites for color, scent, shape or the memories that go with them. I associate certain flowers with certain people. This painting is titled "Red Head," because I think of red heads as vibrant, outspoken, social butterflies. I have never know an introverted red head. To me, these flowers represent the lively red heads of the world. The flower is not one in particular. They are a made up combination of Indian Paintbrush with a bit of Lilly intertwined.
