Push Pole Traditions •SOLD

There is a push pole on display at Peculiar Painter. People often question what the long pole is used for. This pole is used to skillfully guide a canoe through the wild rice. It is beautiful to witness a canoe swiftly move through the rice as the wild rice is harvested every fall. This scene is one I enjoyed observing on Steamboat Bay, Leech Lake in the Fall of 2024.

Push Pole Traditions is a brushed acrylic ink painting on 140 lb. Arches paper. This painting is professionally framed with conservation glass. The final framed size is 14.75"x8.25". This piece is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN.  | 218-547-3729

The Big Lake •SOLD

I started this painting last year and kept wanting to finish it but the right time did not come - until now. Even unfinished I knew I wanted this to be a subtle and warm piece. I want you to feel the relaxed summer days where sky meets water and all feels warm and relaxed.

The Big Lake is a 28"x9" acrylic painting on stretched canvas with painted edges. This piece is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. | 218-547-3729

Find Your Way Home •SOLD

Sundown, on a calm evening, creates a light that feels like a song. I've had this song in my head and couldn't wait to get it down on canvas. This piece changes with the light around it. The blues and reds pop when well lit and then sit back when the light goes down - hopefully...a little like a sunset.

Find Your Way Home is a 36"x24" acrylic painting on stretched canvas with painted edges. This piece is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN.  | 218-547-3729

Grounding •SOLD

My intention, with this painting, is to center the viewer and remind you how grounding trees, water, sunshine and fresh air are to the soul. I used acrylic applied with palette knives to allow the colors to have ridges and movement. I hope you can feel the sun on the lake and it warms your thoughts and balances your mood.

Grounding is an acrylic painting on stretched deep edge canvas with cross braces and painted edges. The size is 30"x40". This piece is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. | 218-547-3729.

Weaving Reflections •SOLD

I have had this image in my mind for so long - it is satisfying to finally see it come to life! Bull Rush often appear in my paintings as a border but I wanted to see it as the main focus. When dried grasses wrap around the green Bull Rush it gives them a delicate woven quality. I wanted this piece to have a meditative quality. The blues, greens and yellow are subtle against the weaving reflections of the bull rush reflecting in the water.

Weaving Reflections is a Brushed acrylic ink painting on 140 lb. arches paper. It is professionally framed with a white matte, conservation glass and deep navy frame. The final framed size is 20" square. This piece is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. | 218-547-3729

8" prints on steel as well as 6" prints on ceramic tiles are also available at Peculiar Painter.

A Tiller in Time •SOLD

From our house, I get to witness the occasional boat pass by, operated by a tiller motor. The slower pace, posture of the driver and setting always brings me back to happy days with my Grandad. I hope this painting brings you to happy days on the water - going just the right pace - with the wind in your hair.

A Tiller in Time is an acrylic painting with palette knife application. The paint is applied thick to give a feeling of dappled light on water. This piece is framed in a shadow box style floater frame. The final framed size is 25"x13" with a 3" thickness from the back to the front of the frame. This piece is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. | 218-547-3729

Gavin NFS

My Nephew is the nicest and cutest boy. He is an avid outdoorsman, exceptional athlete and has great style and balance. Can you tell I am a proud auntie? My sister took a photo of Gavin fishing last summer. His stance and the summer light made for a perfect painting subject.

This piece will go to my nephew but I will have cards available at Peculiar Painter. The original is a 5"x7" brushed acrylic ink on 140 lb. cold press paper.

Time & Space •SOLD

When considering commission paintings, I make sure I have enough connection with the idea in order to do justice to the piece. This piece was about a favorite rock over looking Leech Lake with a loved dog companion - enjoying the sun setting. I think many of us can relate to this feeling. There was an added bonus, for me, because the view included Goose Island in the distance. My Grandparents had a campground that faced the opposite side of Goose Island. Some of my absolute favorite memories include summers at the Camper's Landing beach with Goose Island in the distance.

I used a combination of Palette knife and pointillism to give the painting a summer sun on water feel. I was asked to keep this piece loose and light feeling. With the optical mixing your eye fills in the spaces to make it feel like light reflecting color.

Time & Space is a 24"x24" acrylic painting on stretched canvas with painted edges.  Cards will be available soon.

Call of Summer *SOLD

Who doesn't think of the loon call when they think about spending time on the lake? I look forward to the pair of loons that have become friendly and swim and fish near me as I paddle in the bay. Their intricate design is a gorgeous dance of my favorite patterns - stripes and polka dots!

Call of Summer is a small brushed acrylic ink painting on 140 lb. cold press paper. It is framed with conservation glass to a final size of 8.25"x6.25". This piece is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. | 218-547-3729

A Fine Day for Fishing *SOLD

I have painted girls or women fishing in the past but more recently my fishing paintings have been of men. I was asked to correct this disproportionate ratio of men to women fishing. There are indeed - a lot of women fisher-people in the world. I count myself among these women although I have to admit that I do not clean my own fish. I am thankful to have a husband, brother, brother in laws, dad and even my Mom to clean my fish.

I got side-tracked there. So - this painting is based on a young woman who was fishing off of a boat near our house last summer. She had a nice easy going attitude and seemed to be enjoying the fishing and atmosphere on the lake.

A Fine Day for Fishing is an acrylic based ink painting on 350 lb. mixed media paper. This piece is professionally framed with conservation glass to a final size of 10.5"x14". It is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. | 218-547-3729

Chawn-tay-Chee-Kee-Yah - SOLD

When asked to paint a piece inspired by Native American women dancing my only dilemma  was which medium to choose. I have a library of photos I've taken at Pow Wow ceremonies around Leech Lake. In the past I have painted watercolor, brushed ink and acrylic paintings based on Anishinaabe dancers. For this piece I decided a brushed ink piece would convey the intense color and movement I was going for.

Chawn-tay-Chee-Kee-Yah is a brushed ink painting on 140 lb. hot press paper. Size is 19"x19". This is a commissioned painting and is sold. The buyer named the piece which means My Heart is Inspired by You.

Shoreline Explorer

I was going for a graphic or woodcut feel with this painting. I wanted to create a piece that felt modern but classic. I wanted clean lines and movement. I wanted bright colors and blue to play off of yellow. My intent was to make the canoe and paddler secondary to the environment - the way we feel when we are exploring nature.

Shoreline Exploration is a brushed acrylic ink painting on 140 lb. hot press paper. It is professionally framed with conservation glass to a final size of 12.25" x 14.5". This piece is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN  | 218-547-3729

South Wind & Sunshine *SOLD

I have painted several pieces with this feeling of freedom, summer and fresh water. Palette knife helps me capture the open space and dancing light on water.

South Wind and Sunshine is a 10"x10" acrylic painting on stretched canvas with 1.5" thick stretcher bars and painted edges. It is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN  | 218-547-3729

Shore Lunch - •SOLD

Shore Lunch is inspired by sunsets, fishing, calm waters and outboard motors. There is a family that occupies Minnesota Island in the summer. I've always said, "this family knows how to enjoy Minnesota summers. They are either fishing, jumping off a raft, having a bonfire or just visiting at a picnic table with a cup of coffee. I often see their aluminum boat taking supply runs to resorts and landings to pick up friends, family and supplies. This painting is a glimpse of this summer loving family.

Shore Lunch is a 16"x20" acrylic painting on cradled wood panel with painted edges. It is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN

Lakeside Refresh *SOLD

This painting is inspired by a local resident who I often see walking - off in thought - with her headphones on. She is a wife and mother of 3, a working professional with many interests including sewing. I see her - often dressed in layers - carrying her hand sewn bag. She is tall and always neatly put together. I often find myself wondering what she thinks about on her walks. She always has a nautical feel about her. I picture her most at home by the water, wearing her stylish oversized glasses and hand made accessories. I have been wanting to paint her for years and finally - I came up with the right scene to place her in.

Lakeside Refresh is a 14" x 17" brushed ink painting on 140 lb arches cold press watercolor paper. I will have it professionally framed in a grey-blue barn wood frame and available soon at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. Cards and prints to follow. 218-547-3729.

Clipping Along *SOLD

Even if we don't sail - I think we all can appreciate the sight of a boat propelled by wind and a navigator. This small catamaran sailed by me this summer. The sailor was too far away to recognize but the relaxed posture behind the sails said that he/she was happy to be guiding that bright little boat.

I brought this tiny painting to Heritage Framing to finish with a sweet shadow box style frame and pop of color. Clipping Along is a watercolor painting on 140 lb. watercolor paper. SOLD.

Patio Season - Walker Bay *SOLD

The temperatures are warming and restaurants are putting out their umbrellas and outdoor seating. We are all anticipating sitting under those umbrellas with visiting friends. We are dreaming of sandals and skirts and light layers. We imagine warm breezes and the scent of fresh flowers surrounding us. They will all be here soon!

It's been about a year since I painted - Walker Bay City Dock - a brushed ink painting. I decided that piece needed a companion. My first piece was in grey blue tones. I used a similar woodblock style but added more colors for - Patio Season.

Patio Season - Walker Bay is a brushed ink painting on stretched canvas (prepared with a smooth watercolor ground surface) with painted edges. It is 30"x30". Original SOLD |  Prints are also available for $35.00 each. | 218-547-3729

August Air *SOLD

August Air is a palette knife painting. Painting with a knife and thick application of paint is so satisfying. The paint chooses it's path with little guidance from me. When I want to create a piece that feels modern, has a feeling of dancing sunshine and is about color more than shape - I pick up my palette knifes.

August Air is a 30"x30" acrylic painting on stretched canvas with 1.5" thick stretcher bars and painted edges. It is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN for $675.00 | 218-547-3729

Evening Calm *SOLD

Think back to a summer day where, having spent the afternoon working in air conditioning, you step outside to feel a wave of heat that warms your face and dries your skin. You wonder if the lake is calm. After having a bite to eat you head out to see a lake of glass. A smile crosses your face as you grab your paddle-board and glide across the lake. It's just you, the rhythm of your paddle and the occasional loon call. You are content exactly where you are. You paddle until the sun goes down...and then a little bit longer. The warm lights of home call you in. Your body and mind are at peace.

Evening Calm is a brushed acrylic ink painting on stretched canvas. Size 8"x16".  Available at Peculiar Painter | 218-547-3729
