As Far As I Can See *SOLD

It's funny how a painting will find the person it belongs to. I don't know how many times I have heard gallery visitors say, "I don't know exactly what I'm looking for but I'll know it when I see it." It makes me happy when that piece is a creation of mine.

I had just started this painting by applying my colors with a palette knife - creating thick layers. The week got busy and I didn't get a chance to work on this piece. It sat on my easel in our living room. Each morning I would wake up to these colors and think to myself, "I sort or want to leave it like this - the colors feel good to me." I happened to snap a photo of the morning light on the canvas to remember it after I worked the canvas up more. This same week a family friend stopped in for a visit. He took to the colors too and asked, "how much for the piece just as it is?" And that is the story of how this palette knife painting got to stay in it's raw color form (with a little fine tuning) and go to it's new home in Wisconsin. I couldn't be happier about this.

As Far as I Can See is a 40"x40" acrylic painting on stretched canvas with 1.5" thick stretcher bars and painted edges. It is SOLD.

Penny For Your Thoughts *SOLD

ORANGE, YELLOW and GREEN - if a set of colors were designed to give the brain waves a jolt of inspiration - I think it must be these 3. These little wild flowers dance around the yard and yell paint me all day long. I say - OK.

Penny for Your Thoughts is a 4.75"x9.5"brushed ink painting on 140 lb. watercolor paper. This pieces is professionally framed and available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN | 218-547-3729

Origami Ladies & Ladies *SOLD

Our famous Lady Slipper beauties try to hide but they are not very good at it. These little slippers live near our home. They taunted me to paint them. I kept saying no until one day - they appeared more like tribal warriors and I just couldn't resist.

I sketched them in the same sitting before painting them later with an acrylic brushed ink. I wanted a more organic style for one and architectural lines for the second. Both pieces are on the small side. Sizes are about 5" x 10". These pieces have sold.

Wind Guides *SOLD

Grasses have alway inspired me with their wispy features and subtle coloring. The bigger the canvas - the more fun the grasses are to paint - swooping and growing tall - I had fun with this piece. I limited my color palette to a warm mix of  neutral colors that I thought would make an elegant piece.

Wind Guides is a 12"x48" acrylic painting on stretched canvas with painted edges and cross braces. Edges are 1.78" thick. This piece is available at Peculiar Painter Gallery in Walker, MN  | 218-547-3729

Sounds of Warmer Days *SOLD

Do you know the sweet sound of the Red-Winged Black bird? If you do - you know how welcome the arrival of these beauties and their sound is after a quiet winter. This piece was inspired by the Red-Winged birds that make Minnesota island their home in the summer. I paddled over to the island to find this guy busy flying from one cattail to the next.

Sounds of Warmer Days is a 12" x 22" brushed acrylic ink painting on arches hot press 140 lb. paper. This piece is sold. Cards are available. Peculiar Painter | 218-547-3729

Pictured above is the framed original. This photo was kindly sent to me by the owner of the original. I am please with her frame and Mat choice!

Time Well Spent *SOLD

I contemplated titling this one: First, Biggest and Most. I think a lot of you would understand the title. Fishing with my family we always turn it into a friendly competition. The more I thought about fishing - the final title came to mind. I have never had a bad day fishing. Fishing could be a prescribed therapy for the mind.

Time Well Spent is an acrylic painting on stretched canvas. This is a palette knife painting with many layers. I did use brush work for the boat and fishermen details. Size is 30"x40".  Canvas is professionally stretched with cross bars and painted edges. Edges are 1.75" thick. This piece is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN  | 218-547-3729

Native Columbine NFS

These little beauties modeled for me as I sat on the steps of my back porch. Their amazing architecture and soft color are something to behold. I'd love to do a series of the macro elements that make them whole....or even a bigger overview of a whole cluster of Columbine. Plant life is amazing!

Native Columbine is brushed acrylic ink on 350 lb. hot press paper. It is professionally framed to a final size of about 11"x13" and available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN | 218-547-3729
