Recently, I had someone ask me if I have painted a Mother and Son scene? I had to think about it and realized that I have not, which is odd since I am a Mother to a son and I love the strong bond we have. Since then, I have been visualizing what_Mother and Son scene would be fun to paint.  I associate Red Pines with dramatic views of blue water, clean air and deep refreshing-recharging breath. There is something about red pines and lake views that relax the soul and says home.

 When the Juncos come through they add such a lively flurry to their surroundings. I confess, I keep the bird seed stocked when I see them - just to keep them around longer. I can spend hours watching them flurry about. It seems like they are always in a group - dotting the trees with adorable little round silhouettes.

 I confess, I began this painting with the intent of painting peaceful moving leaves on branches. I was happy with the sketch of the leaves and then remembered a sweet American Redstart that I had photographed earlier this year and thought, this environment would be perfect for him. And so, it was, the American Redstart became the star. I think the leaves are ok with this.

Look Up •SOLD

As I spend more time at home I feel like I should be accomplishing more. I feel like I should contribute more. Anxiety keeps me from getting a good night of rest. What calms me is nature and fresh air. I put on my jacket and wander outside and balance is restored. I take a deep breath and tell myself to enjoy this time at home because schedules will be restored and Covid 19 will pass and I will miss my peace at home with no set schedule and more time to paint. So Look Up and enjoy nature and time and try not to think about the things we think are falling apart.  

Funny, when I reflect on the times in my past when I was at a crossroads, I have always gone for a walk and painted a tree. This tree is titled: Look Up. Origami Ladies & Ladies *SOLD

Our famous Lady Slipper beauties try to hide but they are not very good at it. These little slippers live near our home. They taunted me to paint them. I kept saying no until one day - they appeared more like tribal warriors and I just couldn't resist.

I sketched them in the same sitting before painting them later with an acrylic brushed ink. I wanted a more organic style for one and architectural lines for the second. Both pieces are on the small side. Sizes are about 5" x 10". These pieces have sold.
