Spring Suspense revisited - *SOLD

I painted "Spring Suspense" originally in 2012. Something about it just didn't sit quite right with me. I was trying to capture an early spring moment where a fishermen waded out into the high waters in search of a fish and more likely some fresh air and peace of mind. By using an impressionist dappled effect the painting has more movement and the feel of moving waters. The piece has a cooler feel to it as well and makes the fishermen look smaller compared to the nature around him, which is what he seemed to be in search of.

Spring Suspense is 16" x 20" - acrylic on stretched canvas. It is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN for $95.00. 218-547-3729

Peaceful Entrance - *SOLD

When the snow melts and the sweet scent of blossoms start to fill the air, the apple blossoms are the ones I really look forward to. They stay such a short time and add a feathery softness to the twisting branches. The more blossoms there are..the more I have to look forward to come fall. Like magic - the fresh little petals mark the places where the apples will appear.

Peaceful Entrance is a 16" x 20" acrylic painting on wood panel. I triple primed the panel to give it a smooth surface and then layered colors to give this piece an almost egg tempera effect. The palette is a calming sky blue and ivory with warms grays, silvery greens and a touch of yellow ocher.

Scandinavian Garden III - Windpower and Wishes *SOLD

This little 8" x 10" watercolor is the third in my Scandinavian Garden series. My intention was not to create a windmill farm but now that the piece is complete, all I really see is wind power and wishes. My alternate title is Windpower and Wishes but since it is a part of a series we will keep it in the Scandinavian Garden series.

Framed and matted this piece is $60 and available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN.

Norwegian Garden [finished] - *SOLD

Norwegian Garden is finished! This was a fun one to paint with all its bold colors and interweaving shapes.  You can see an earlier [in progress] photo of Norwegian Garden in an earlier entry. You will see that I added some contrasting blues to really make the piece bold. This is not a subtle piece - it wants attention and that is why it was so much fun to paint.

Norwegian Garden is 18" x 36" painted in acrylic on stretched canvas. The design is continued onto the edges of the 1.5" thick stretch bars. Available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN.

Scandinavian Garden DNA - original watercolor *SOLD

I have decided to create a Scandinavian Garden watercolor series. These colorful little pieces are so much fun they deserve a series. This one is titled Scandinavian Garden DNA. The bold blues contrast my last piece nicely. Here again, I am playing off the elongated geometric and organic shapes to create a whimsical piece.

I painted this watercolor on 140 lb Arches Rough surface watercolor paper. The painted area is 12"x4" with an overall area of 14"x5". Once I have enough of the Scandinavian garden pieces together I plan on looking into selling prints as well.

Scandinavian Garden - original watercolor by Jessie Townsdin *SOLD

In the same style as my Modern Scandinavian series comes this fun little watercolor painting. I used bright colors and elongated shapes associated with Scandinavian design to create a happy little piece. By using geometric shapes as well as some exaggerated organic elements I was going for a modern playful piece.

The overall size of this watercolor is 6" x 14" on a Arches 140 lb rough grain watercolor paper. Scandinavian Garden will soon be off to the framer and hanging at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. Price to be determined based on frame.

Sunshine n Sailing - graphite and watercolor wash

Sunshine n Sailing is a graphite sketch on 140 lb watercolor paper. I used a light watercolor wash with sepia and paynes grey through the loosely sketched trees and water to give the piece a touch of nostalgia or a little bit of a vintage feel.

Years ago I painted this same scene as an acrylic painting. The inspiration comes from a photograph I took during the Leech Lake Regatta in 2002. The acrylic painting was titled Harbor Boy. You can see this piece on my archived painting website at: jessietownsdin.com.

Sunshine n Sailing is framed and matted to fit an 8" x 10" image area and overall frame dimension is 17"x21". This piece is available for sale at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. 218-547-3729
