My first painting of 2025 is complete. One of my favorite days of 2024 included a stop at a golden beach on a hot summer evening. As my son played in the water I noticed a paddle-boarder enjoying a smooth paddle as the light faded. As she got closer, the woman that I thought was young, now appeared to be a silver haired and fit woman in her retirement years. She beached her board and went for a refreshing swim. It was obvious that she was savoring the day. As she paddled off into the distance I found I was filled with inspiration. 

I wish us all a healthy and prosperous new year filled with plenty of fresh air and sunshine. Here is to 2025 - Cheers!

Embrace the Day •SOLD

 Embrace the Day _ is the latest in my Walker, Minnesota painting series. I had this vision, on a warm, blue sky, no wind day, late last summer. Part of the joy of living in this area is the anticipation of getting out on the water. When your days work is done and you find a little space to get outside and feel the water, sun and hear the birds call - something in you calms, balances and resets. This piece is about the moment you find your space.

One Thread One Drop One Light •SOLD

 If you have ever stood up on a paddle board - on a calm day - you know this feeling. A calm meditation on water begins. The sounds around the lake relax you, the motion of the paddle revives you and the feeling of standing on water is like nothing else. You feel the beauty of the light and colors around you - dancing off of the water. 

I have this vision of painting a paddle series from above. With the help of my brother's drone flying skills, I have a collection of photos to help inspire this series. This is the start of a series of painting from above, as the paddle shapes the water and the light dances from above. 

One Thread One Drop One Light - is an acrylic painting on stretched canvas with painted edges. I used palette knife for most of this piece so the paint is thick and loose. Size is 30" square. This piece will soon be available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. | 218-547-3729

Sidekick *SOLD

I can't take credit for the inspiration for this painting. A friend of mine approached me, about a year ago, to paint this scene - based on a photo she had taken of her daughter and dog. The photo had a beautiful stillness about it which I wasn't sure I could do justice.

It took 10 months for the vision to set in my mind and once it did the sketching process was smooth. It took several layers to get the depth I was looking for. I am happy to say the owner of this piece was please with the final painting. This was a brushed acrylic ink painting on 140 lb. hot press arches paper. Sold

In the middle of winter - do you let your mind wander to warm...maybe even hot days on the lake. The sun feels so good on your face that you paddle toward it. There are birds calling and fish swimming. The lake is so clear you can see down 8 feet. Maybe...the water feels so good you jump in and float! Ah Summer on the lake.

Communicating with the Light is a 16" square brushed ink painting on 368 lb. mixed media hot press paper. The original is professionally framed in a beautiful maple frame with grey mat and conservation glass. It is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN. Final framed size is 25.25" square. 2018 is here and I'm feeling calmer and finding time to paint! What's better to paint on a -20 below week than a nice warm summer paddle-boarding scene?

I had a request for a paddle boarding painting. As with all commissioned paintings - I take suggestions and enjoy photo inspiration to go along with requests. With this piece the request was from a mother for a painting of her daughter. I enjoyed looking through photos of sunsets and a beautiful girl/young woman in her element on a SUP. Her dark curly hair and graceful lines were easy subjects to paint.

Summer Sun SUP *SOLD

This tiny little 5" square painting was created by sketching in acrylic based ink and then overpainting with acrylic paint. I kept the colors limited to give it a block print feeling or old fashion illustration style.

For those of you who have tried stand up paddle boarding - you know how addicting and meditative the activity can be. By the time Spring comes back around we are craving the smooth water, long board and joy of paddling while looking into the clear water for signs of fish, turtles and other lake life. Summer Sun SUP is an ode to the wonderful sport of paddling.
