Postcard from Minnesota *SOLD

Living in the town I grew up visiting on Summer vacation often makes me feel like a tourist - savoring the lake and small town speed. This painting was inspired by a visitor I caught taking in the Walker Bay view in just that way. She looked comfortable and relaxed and I imagine her thoughts were in the moment - surrounded by lake, sky and a nice breeze. 

This piece has a special place in my Walker series because it reminds me of several visitors that frequent my little shop. It's funny how age at this angle can vary from young adult to retiree which is why she brings thoughts of several of my favorite visitors. 

Postcard from Minnesota is a brushed acrylic ink painting on 140 lb. hot press watercolor paper. It is framed to a final size of 9"x11" with conservation glass. South Wind & Sunshine *SOLD

I have painted several pieces with this feeling of freedom, summer and fresh water. Palette knife helps me capture the open space and dancing light on water.

Summer Rain at the Lake *SOLD

As a shop owner, I enjoy watching the umbrellas come out as visitors come to town to escape the rain. On one of these rainy days, a lovely couple stopped in the shop. She was layered up with a tall caller, cool shoes, bun on top of her head, long coat and all of those little details that make for a fun painting subject.

This is the painting that resulted from that inspiring visit. It is a simple watercolor without a lot of layering. I used limited lines and light washes to give it a summery feel. Patio Season - Walker Bay *SOLD

The temperatures are warming and restaurants are putting out their umbrellas and outdoor seating. We are all anticipating sitting under those umbrellas with visiting friends. We are dreaming of sandals and skirts and light layers. We imagine warm breezes and the scent of fresh flowers surrounding us. They will all be here soon!

It's been about a year since I painted - Walker Bay City Dock - a brushed ink painting. I decided that piece needed a companion. My first piece was in grey blue tones. I used a similar woodblock style but added more colors for - Patio Season.
