Flycatcher in the Willow

The inspiration for this piece came from the colorful spring willow that grows near the shoreline. The yellows, reds and greens have a beautiful twist and turn that asked to be painted. We had an abundance of Kingbirds playing in and around the willow as well SO naturally the Flycatchers became my models.

This piece has a similar feel to my Modern Scandinavian Series but has a more organic feel, therefore it goes with the series but is not titled as so. Speed of Light •SOLD

It's possible that I spent hours and days sitting near the lake, panning my camera with Tree Swallows. They are fast acrobats with their aerial maneuvers. My original sketch of the piece had 3 birds in flight - eventually narrowing it down to one bird in flight with its near wing turned up. This piece is one that has to be seen in person to feel the movement.

Minnesota Grown •SOLD

I have been eager to get back to working on larger canvases, after a busy summer. As I look out my window I can see little hints of autumn color turning the green leaves yellow. The summer colors still dance on the water and in the distance. These colors inspired this piece.

Modern Scandinavian Garden Red-Poles and Forsythia •SOLD

 Yellow, blue and Red-Poles where my inspiration for this piece. I was ready for a large scale Modern Scandinavian Garden painting and imagined exaggerated Forsythia branches. The Red-Poles have been visiting our feeder and made for cheerful little models. I asked our local florist if she could get Forsythia in and she was happy to look into it! This piece kept getting brighter and brighter and it just might be my favorite Modern Scandinavian Garden piece.

Abundance *SOLD

I have been excited to paint this piece for some time. I was inspired by the little Red Bellied Woodpecker that visits our yard every day. She sits in the birch and greets me with a nod - no matter what the weather is. I pictured her enjoying the company of a Mountain ash which would allow me to get the bright oranges and cobalt blues that I have been wanting to paint.

Abundance is the title of this piece. It is a 48"x12" acrylic on stretched canvas with painted edges. This piece is about savoring your surroundings. Abundance is on Hold - a buyer has been arranged. 

Blue Deep *SOLD

 When I started this canvas I was picturing water singing with deep blues under a blue sky. I was going for an emotional connection with thick layers dancing off of each other. The more the piece developed the more I felt it needed context. Sometimes I just can't leave an abstract as an abstract and this is one of those times. I feel like the piece is still about the water but the pair canoeing help give it a nice flow.
