I started this painting as a loose sketch on watercolor paper. I was giving a painting demonstration to my son's school and wanted to show techniques of painting. The sketch remained unpainted for a year, until last month when I couldn't resist adding color to it.
My brain has been healing from a head concussion. The thought of relaxing and painting with bright colors was calming to my mind and eyes. I worked slowly, layering color and adding movement to the piece. I added a hummingbird in flight along with a feeling of the hummingbird trail around the Dahlias.
