this is a site to share new works as I finish them including paintings, illustrations, hand formed and shaped necklaces. ...and maybe I'll share a story or two about how they came about.
When it comes time to doing inventory - I get easily distracted...especially when I have a selection of beautiful paints sitting out saying, "open me. . . OPEN ME." This little hummingbird painting is the result of what should have been my time counting paint tubes.
I titled this 6"x6" acrylic painting Sugar and Sunshine - which is what I feel the hummingbird represents. It is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN | 218-547-3729
I started this piece at the end of 2017. I had a vision of a simple cerulean and navy blue wash - a calm piece with white space - very modern. This is a large watercolor 22.5" x 22.5" with a nice clean white boarder. As with most of my pieces - I set it where I could visit it everyday. I felt it wasn't complete although it was what I had envisioned. As we entered 2018 my mood changed. My energy and inspiration grew and I decided this piece needed more movement - more color - more depth. Orange, Paynes Grey and splatters of ink put the finishing touches on this piece.
I hope this piece represents the light and color I feel the new year brings. Path of Inspiration will be completed when I have it professionally framed. I'm still trying to decide what the perfect compliment frame will be. Final framed price and size to come. This painting is watercolor and acrylic brushed ink on 140 lb. cold press arches watercolor paper.
2018 is here and I'm feeling calmer and finding time to paint! What's better to paint on a -20 below week than a nice warm summer paddle-boarding scene?
I had a request for a paddle boarding painting. As with all commissioned paintings - I take suggestions and enjoy photo inspiration to go along with requests. With this piece the request was from a mother for a painting of her daughter. I enjoyed looking through photos of sunsets and a beautiful girl/young woman in her element on a SUP. Her dark curly hair and graceful lines were easy subjects to paint.
Savoring Summer is a 20"x20" acrylic painting on stretched canvas with 1.5" thick stretcher bars and painted edges. It is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN | 218-547-3729
