this is a site to share new works as I finish them including paintings, illustrations, hand formed and shaped necklaces. ...and maybe I'll share a story or two about how they came about.
When the sun is going down and he has a little time to himself - you will find this fisherman wandering down to the lake, fishing rod in hand. He wants to catch a fish, of course, but I can tell that he is enjoy the sunset, the sounds of the lake and the peace the water brings. Can you relate?
Sundown Fisherman is a 5"x7" brushed ink painting on 140 lb. hot press paper. It is framed to a final size of 9"x 11" and available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN for $155.00 | 218-547-3729
|I have been waiting for the time to paint these wild roses since the day I photographed them. While out on a walk, last summer, the whimsical flower shells caught my attention. I would not have known what they were had I not seen a wild rose in full bloom near by. The center of the rose after the petals fall are a delight with their polka-dot spacing and yellow eye. Of course I had to exaggerate the form even more for this piece.|
Modern Scandinavian Wild Rose is an acrylic painting on stretched canvas with 1.5" thick stretch bars and painted edges. I thought the unique size of 48"x12" would compliment the twirling leaves and stems. This painting will be available soon at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN | 218-547-3729
|Who cannot help but love a loon? Their calls remind us of home - of the lake, peaceful evenings on or by the water, warm summer breezes and campfires. Their patterns are the most striking dance of dots and lines - textile/tribal/totems. As common as they are in Minnesota you would think I'd get used to them but each time I encounter one I feel a sacred presence about them.|
It wasn't until I got close to this trio of loons that I decided I needed to paint them. The patterns playing off of each other and reflecting on the still lake appealed to the pattern lover in me. I envisioned painting this scene large but I found myself sketching on a smaller scale this week and so we have a small loon painting.
Loon Trio is a 8.5"x5.5" brushed ink painting on 140 lb. cold press paper. It is professionally framed and matted with conservation glass to a final size of 14" x 11". Loon Trio is available at Peculiar Painter in Walker, MN | 218-547-3729
|This piece is a commissioned painting for a couple living in Texas. They wanted a piece that reminded them of this area but complimented their Texas home. It was fun to see a photo of the space the painting was created for and helped me to envision the colors that would really thrive there.|
I used a combination of layered brush work and palette knife for Breathe Easy Autumn. I was going for an expressionistic feel of light and color. The title is in reference to change in schedule. With retirement at hand, for this couple, I imagine they are breathing a little deeper - perhaps relaxing and planning adventures.
Breathe Easy Autumn is an original acrylic painting on stretched canvas with 1.5" thick stretcher bars, painted edges and cross braces. It will be going to it's new home down south soon.
This Kingfisher is a regular visitor near our home. His style makes me think of a well dressed young man with punk rock hair do. He must be a poet or musician. He sits and observes and is quick to fly if I get too close - so I observe from a distance and enjoy his company.
This little piece was fun to paint. With the holidays being so full, when I get the chance to sit down and work on a smaller piece it balances me out and lets my mind relax. I painted Kingfisher's Style with acrylic based ink on 140 lb. hot press paper. My attempt here is to give the piece a limited color woodblock feel although it is a painted piece.
Kingfisher's Style is professionally framed to a final size of 11.25" x 11.25". | 218-547-3728
