Rivers, Waders and Rhythm *SOLD

This 13" x 17" watercolor on 140 lb watercolor paper was inspired by a day on the Missouri River with a good guide/friend, a camera and a back seat to a drift boat mecca. We were surrounded by drift-boats guided by skilled men and women who knew the river and loved every minute of being out there. ...or at least they pretended like they did. I was introduced to a world I knew existed but never got very close to. I will paint this day for years to come.

There is a romance and grace to fly-fishing that is always intriguing to paint. I don't know if it is the movement, the rhythm or just being out on the river that makes it so appealing. I hope I can capture a little bit of the beauty I find in the sport.

Take to the Sky has been something I have been wanting to paint for months. The extremely cold winter in Minnesota this year has my mind dancing with visions of flying on warm air currents. The bright primary colors contrast the scene out my window the last few months. The snow is gone and it's time for color to burst in. It's time to get outside and shed the layers. Sandpoint, ID holds a Thursday evening regatta in the summers. During my first year in Sandpoint, I had a routine of biking to the races after picking up Thai food to enjoy as I perched at the end of the rocks and watched the boats. I looked forward to Thursdays and seeing the regular sailors playing with the wind. I still picture the smile and waves as the sailors glided back to the docks.

Morning Light *SOLD

Morning Light is a simple leaf painting in a fun narrow size. I used my favorite Grumbacher hue: Naples Yellow  along with the beautiful  yellow of, Winsor and Newton's Artists' Acrylic: Naples Yellow Deep to create the feel of sun bursting through the red leaves.

Calla Lily Bloom

Calla Lily Bloom was inspired by a recent trip to Arizona and the gardens of a master gardener - My Aunt. The spiraling leaves were as inspiring as the tulip shaped blooms. If there was ever a flower that could be playful and elegant at the same time - it would be the Calla Lily.

I tried several different background colors on this piece until I settled on the rich cobalt blue, giving this painting a calm and peaceful feel.
